California State University, Long Beach (CSULB): Cerritos College and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) have a long and strong history of working together to improve education.
Currently Cerritos College and CSULB have a model partnership revolving around the preparation of K-6 teachers.
This 2+2 program has so successfully integrated the two programs that Cerritos College Teacher TRAC offers a comprehensive, fully articulated curriculum that mirrors almost exactly the first two years at CSULB and is aligned with the California Content and Professional Teaching Standards as well as the California Technology Standards.
Through the Teacher TRAC Program, students are taught using a comprehensive, fully articulated curriculum similar to CSULB that is also aligned with the California Content and Professional Teaching Standards as well as the California Technology Standards.
In addition to this extended partnership; two new articulation agreements were formed with CSULB in the last few years.
The second curriculum pathway is to recruit and prepare special education teachers at all levels of education.The Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grant has offered another opportunity for CSULB and Cerritos to partner, through the Professional Studies Department. The Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grant has provided an opportunity to formalize that partnership by developing pathways for future Industrial and Technology Education (ITE teachers).With the support of the ABC Unified School District, Cerritos College Teacher TRAC has been able to provide hands on experience and mentoring to Teacher TRAC Students in the Elementary Pathway and through our Special Education Internships.We appreciate all the support the District has supplied to us and our students and look forward to many more collaborative projects with the District in the future.The Professional Studies Department at CSULB offers several programs "designed to enable persons to gain the competencies requisite for successful employment in secondary schools, community colleges and adult programs as teachers, coordinators and supervisors of vocational, occupational, career and technical preparation, and related human resource development programs." CSULA offers the Industrial Technology degree with a Technology Education Track that prepares students for teaching careers: Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Furthermore, CSULA is one of only two California State Universities offering a Single-Subject Credential program in Industrial Technology and Education (ITE).
